Usual Opposition Position
The usual position is that the presence in the CPS work disability data of those with a veterans’ disability skews the data, making it unusable.

VEI Position

As noted in Gibson (2001), work disability statistics do include people with a veterans’ disability.  Those who meet no other work disability criteria have an employment rate of .91 (consistent with nondisabled employment rates), whereas those who do meet other nonsevere work disability criteria have an employment rate of .71 (consistent with nonsevere employment rates).  The presence of the veterans’ disability group could slightly skew the nonsevere employment rates upward.  A close look at Gibson (2001), however, reveals that only 4% of the nonseverely disabled male group meets the veterans’ disability criteria, but no other.  Therefore, the impact of their presence is minimal.  There is practically no impact from this question for the female population with disabilities.
