This page address known support issues for our Vocational
Assessment of Lost Earnings (VALE) software, version 1.1 as well as our
Worklife Probability (WLP) software.
Click any of the below topics to expand its discussion:
- Installation failure on Windows 95TM with Internet Explorer 5TM or higher
- During installation we attempt to install the Windows Scripting HostTM for
Windows 95TM. Certain components upgraded when you install Internet Explorer 5TM
are incompatible and require loading the version of Windows Scripting HostTM
for Windows 98/Me/NT4TM instead of the Windows 95/Internet Explorer 4TM version.
All of the files are included on the installation CD. Manually run
win98ment4.exe and then repeat the VALE installation.
- Post-incident scenario entry may be required in Case Entry
- A change to the data structure may not allow you to leave the input line
while entering a Case Scenario. This has been corrected in versions shipped
after 9/1/2002. WORKAROUND: put something into the Post-injury field (e.g.,
same scenario as Pre-injury) and tab out of the line, then return and delete
the Post-incident entry.
- Windows 98 incompatible with VALE 2000
- We tested VALE using Windows 98TM Second Edition with no problems, however
a field support incident determined that the replacement of Windows 98's
oleaut32.dll during the VALE installation process caused erratic responses
from Windows 98TM, and Microsoft OfficeTM application failures. Upgrading
to Win98SETM or higher alleviates this problem.
- Multiple "System Files are Out of Date" errors
- During installation, you keep getting the following message: Setup
cannot continue because some system files are out of date on your system.
Click OK if you would like setup to update these files for you now. You will
need to restart Windows before you can run setup again. Click cancel to exit
setup without updating system files. See Microsoft
KB article 191096.
- Invalid use of Null
- Check the "User
Defaults" (from Control Panel, select the Maintenance tab and press the
User Defaults button on the top left of the form). Nothing should be grayed out, do NOT press the OK button until all
settings are checked and/or changed.
- Office XPTM with Microsoft Access XP/2002TM
- The current version of the program is built on the Microsoft Access 2000TM
Runtime Engine. Version 1.0 and some early Version 1.1 copies will insist on
installing the Access 2000TM runtime - which may cause difficulties (Microsoft
recommends installing prior versions before installing later versions).
Later 1.1 (including the Worklife Probability Edition) versions will detect
and use Access 2002/XPTM. Either reinstall Access 2002TM after VALE or
contact us for an upgrade.
- Windows XP/NTTM
- We do not recommend the practice of running the machine with
Administrative rights for day-to-day operations. Therefore, either the
specific user or the VALE Group containing authorized users should have
read/write/modify rights to the "HKEY_LOCAL MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Vocational
Econometrics" key in the system registry as well as the "Program Files\VALE"
directory into which the program is installed.
